Interview with Andrea from Chakras

Chakras lineup formed in 2006 with a desire to create music that grasped onto an eerie , ethereal, rock vibe. Influences range from Tool, Tori Amos , Lacuna Coil, Faith No More to old school Black Sabbath but are not limited to these influences. The sound can take you somewhere heavy and forceful then yank you back to a dreamy flowing place. Band members are diverse in experience ranging from metal, punk, roots rock and main stream pop. With members from local bands such as Hollowpoint, Spiff, Pale Beneath the Blue, Backseat Virtue, Kohai and Buffalo based Kama Sutra . The diversity creates a sound all its own.

Is the music scene tougher these days

For some reason it seams so.
I'm sure the economy has had an effect, as well as the changes that have happened to the music scene.
Perhaps DJ's have become more desirable, reliable, and affordable than live music.
One thing is for sure, there would be no DJ's without live music.
So, how can live musicians turn this tide around?

Singer/songwriter Jenn Cristy launched into the music scene in 2003, wowing listeners from the start with an old-school rock 'n roll style with a decidedly contemporary flair. Her piano-driven melodies are supported by a dynamic voice and vibrant stage presence that gets audiences on their feet -- and leaves them wanting more.

Interview with Erin Zindle from The Ragbirds

The Ragbirds began in 2005 with songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle and world percussionist Randall Moore in their search to create fresh, original songs sprouting out of their common love for world music and their desire to weave these distant sounds into more familiar genres. With the addition of guitarist/vocalist Matthew Melody, bassist Dan Hildebrandt, and percussionist Tim Dziekan, who share the vision of creating honest, creative, and original music combining these global and local elements, The Ragbirds fully realized their unique sound.

Jon Justice CD Release show 4.18.08

April 7, 2008 (Cincinnati, OH) -- Jon Justice will be releasing their long awaited sophomore album, "The Rebound", Friday April 18th at Covington's best venue for live music, Molly Malone's. Shyte Mcflyte, a newly formed Jazz/Blues Hip Hop Fusion group will be kicking off the night at 9:30 sharp. Make sure to bring your dancing shoes for these guys! Entry is FREE with the purchase of "The Rebound" and $5 otherwise.

The new release from Jon Justice is more representative of what he brings to the table as an individual as well as a songwriter and performer. Jon's first album, "Forget About Time", although very good, was admittedly slightly over produced. In his latest effort he has used his current touring band in the studio with him along with producer Phillip Wolfe and an array of great backup singers. This is in contrast to using such well known heavy hitters as Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns on the previous record. You are sure to get your money's worth with "The Rebound" as the total track count comes in at a very impressive 14 songs. "The Rebound" will be available at many of your favorite local retailers as well as at www.jonjustice.com but don't miss out on the very first opportunity to get your copy, Friday April 18th at Molly Malone's in Covington, KY.

Interview with Kelly Richey

Guitarist/singer Kelly Richey has been described by one music critic as: “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out.” That’s an apt appraisal of the Lexington, Kentucky native, who’s now been based in Cincinnati for many years. Over the course of many album releases (and a live DVD), Richey has often been compared to such greats as Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan because of her ability to capture and entertain an audience with ripping guitar leads that both sing and astonish.

Here is my Interview with Kelly Richey:

The Macpodz are an electrified jazz quintet from Ann Arbor, Michigan. In the traditions of Miles Davis and Frank Zappa, this ensemble pushes the boundaries of rock, jazz and fusion music. Drummer Griffin Bastian and percussionist Nick Ayers drive the rhythm behind bassist Brennan Andes, keyboardist Jesse Clayton and trumpeter Ross Huff. The band coined the term “Disco Bebop” at their first gig in early 2006, after playing a four on the floor roller rink remix of the Charlie Parker tune, “Dewey Square.”

The band is currently on a Spring 2008 tour in support of their newest release; Orcastrate with many dates scheduled throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

In order to fully understand The Werks, one must first witness them perform live. Self-described as a groove rock band, The Werks' original songs explore genres such as funk, electronica, soul, bluegrass, jazz, afro-cuban, celtic, R&B, and dance. Their unique style of performing is affected and manipulated by the energy of the audience, guaranteeing that each show will be different and memorable.

I work at Graphics Taboot and TabootArt.com here in Denver. We design and print band and event merchandise all across the country. Our in house poster artist and graphic designer is known for his psychedelic hand drawn style, you can check out his work here:
www.gigposters.com/designer...tarr.html
We have lots of designers we work with as well. We run a small clothing company TabootArt and were recently in Rolling Stone Magazine. We print all sorts of items from tshirts (access to lots of brands and styles including organic, fashion fit, burn out and more) to stickers, hoodies, golf shirts, flyers, biz cards, postcards, promo and souvenir posters.

We are all music fans so good energy goes into everything we do. Our prices are very competitive and we charge no set up fees. Turnaround time is 2 to 5 days. We have done promotion work for some shows at Cervantes and do a lot of work with MoBoogie.net. We relocated from Charlotte/Boone NC this time last year. I would really like to begin working with more bands, so if any of yall ever need any creative work done, let me know. I can get you a price quote fast. We can print your design(s) as well as design something ourselves that you approve. Our shop is downtown and we work late and most all weekends. I'd love to help any of yall out~

Strange lights giving Sample video and mp3 to public? Networking bands and such, Thanks Tufani for getting us started.

This is my first posting. So I hope it works.

Yes we are a band trying to network with other people, bands etc.
I don't know where we fit cause most of the the people on tribe that we know are either techno freaks or fire spinners and such. We are trying at a modern/and retro band with indie, folk, pop and a little bit gothic influences. Don't know if we fit into the other tribe stuff but we would appreciate some response to lead us down a path of connectivity with the right people. Definitely the same ideals just a slightly different style. Freaks that fit in where?. Anyway, On the website there are a million songs to download free www.strangelights.net. We just want to grow for a while so there are only a few things we charge for. We want to connect and do shows with other friendly(not too egocentric) musicians. We especially like odd ducks that have some clear direction in life. We have 6 new videos with free smaller version mpegs of 4 of them on the website. You can definitely get an idea if you like us or want to work together by checking our the videos.

If you don't want to download you can view them at:

Sesmic and Izabella this month and next months featured shows @ The Yankee:

Sesmic and Izabella, this month and next months featured shows @ The Yankee:

Featured January 07' show:
Fri 1/12/07-Sesmic 10pm $7 http://www.seismicband.com/ www.theyankee.com
Hailing from a region that experiences about 30 earthquakes a day, Los Angeles-based Seismic couldn’t have nabbed a more appropriate moniker. But the seismicity of the band’s hometown is only the half of it. Part of an emerging jam-based music scene in L.A., Seismic is living up to its powerful name, quickly converting fans with its funky grooves, seamless changes and driving rhythms, and regularly packing dance floors and shaking rafters and booties with its own potent version of “Seismic activity.”
Combining rock, jazz, blues, country, funk, bluegrass and even classical influences, Seismic has a sound all its own—and one that is more than worthy of its earthshaking namesake, which has become a metaphor for its music. “In a lot of ways, I feel like it has taken on new meaning as we’ve grown as a band,” states Rappaport. “It’s almost become a central theme of the way in which we feel the jams. We have a very big sound, and then we get some crescendos and then it kind of comes down…and then sometimes there’s an aftershock.”

Featured Febuary 07' show:
Fri 2/2/07- Izabella's CD RELEASE PARTY!!!!! 10pm $5 http://www.izabellaband.com/
Izabella has finished their debut studio album, “Dream When You Sleep”and it ROCKS!!!!
please come down to the show to git-down and boggie...
About:IZABELLA was born out of years of musical connections. Like many bands before, and many yet to come, the search for new music is what ultimately brings these musicians together. The love of the improvisational/jam community is what drives and inspires them to push forward. Sean Lehe (guitar/vocals), Lucas Carlton (drums) and Murph (bass) spent the past four years recording and touring with Bay Area jamband, Home At Last. With a desire for a fresh start, the trio decided in the spring of 2006 to branch out with a new face and renewed sense of purpose. After years of networking in the scene, close connections were made with some of the most talented players around. As a result, the trio has grown to a six-piece machine, featuring the kitchen sink percussion of Shawn King, the soulful energy of Brian Rogers (vocals/bass/percussion/guitar) and the blissful embellishments of Andre Fylling (keyboards/vocals). The intent is to develop a musical space that is exploratory, challenging AND accessible. Inspired genre-bending songwriting, danceable energy, and emotive vocals are the key ingredients toward this end. No musical experience, however, is complete without strong community. As IZABELLA was born from musical connections, so will it thrive and grow with positive connections made in the community.

Looking for a bassist and a drummer in San Francisco

I need to find a drummer and a bassist to be the solid foundation for a Folky Jazy Funk Grass band called Road Head. So far it is me and one guitarist. I play Fiddle mandolin Harmonica Guitar and vocals. I would prefer some one who lives real close to Haight St. To make rehersal easier for everyone involved. I already have some paying gigs lined up and some connections with people who can do quality recording for us. Give me a call at (415) 425-1308 for an audition or email me at jahfunky@yahoo.com

Cheers

I'm a solo singer/songwriter with a loop pedal looking to get a band together in San Francisco. I already have gigs but I am tired of playing with myself on stage in front of people:) I always have random guest musicians and performers, but I want to put something a bit more organized together. I need a bassist and a Drummer. Basically I want a solid rythmn section. I have one guitarist and potentially keys, and myself on guitar, fiddle, harmonica, mandolin and vocals. You can email me at jahfunky@yahoo.com

"IN YOUR FACE"
The New CD by RICH REICH

With his long awaited CD effort, affectionately titled "In your face", Rich Reich combines elements of Folk, Jazz, Country and Hard Rock to create one of the most well rounded independent releases in recent memory. Released on his own label "CSAM Records", The 35 minute CD features 9 songs all penned by RR. 4 years in the making, this recording contains some of Reich's finest work to date. The magic of this record is due largely to the sum of its parts.

Recorded in and around New York City, the outing was produced by Eric Mauriello who, as well as engineering the recording, played bass, keyboards, guitar, miscellaneous percussion, and sang on a number of tracks. Also featured on the cd are the talents of Phil Bloom (drums and percussion) , Theresa Cifali (back up vocals), Nellie Ramos (back up vocals on "Pieces"), Bruce Algera (Pedal steel guitar on "Unpatiently"), and John Campagna (flute on "Unpatiently").

Reich is currently located in Boulder, Colorado where he plans to reinvent the music industry.

why my recording deal is BETTER than FREE

sure, i could record you in my bedroom, or in the subway corridors, using my powerbook. and sure, i could charge $5/ hour. or i could do it for free...

but that would be a waste of your energy. and money. time too.

so, that's not what i'm going to throw at you, bay area musicians. i respect your effort more than to go and use up your hard earned resouces on half mixed, partially recorded, phased out and quiet little masters.

nope.

i'm giving you the chance to do this like the big guys. i will fight to get you an affordable deal in the most sought after studio in SF. and i don't mean a 10% discount...

oh! but you gotta be worth it.

if you wanna keep playing for free, then you should continue recording the same way.

if not, we need to talk.

Hello.

I play in a local cover band based out of Phoenix called Phat Bastard (www.getphat.com).
We have been together for a few years now.
We really would like to play in some venues out of state, and would look forward to doing so in one of the aforementioned areas, but we don't know anything about any of the clubs, agents, or promoters in those areas.

Anyone with any kind of information at all about one of the areas mentioned above so far as clubs to book in or networking opportunities, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bruce / lead guitarist / Phat Bastard

Looking for opener, SoCal, St. Patrick's Day

Hi!

I'm from the Poxy Boggards, and we're currently looking for an opener for our show on St. Patrick's Day at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana.

We're folk/modern with an emphasis towards drinking songs, and obviously due to the date a certain emphasis of the Irish contingent of our set.

Openers will be required to sell tickets. It's not true "pay to play", as there's no financial penalties or fees beyond the sales - the Galaxy usually expects openers to sell around 50 - 100.

If you're interested, please contact us at bogsheet@poxyboggards.com, and mention that you're interested in information about opening in the subject line.

Thank you!

Bay Area's Dave Stein Bubhub seeks gifted, groovin' drummer.

Hey,

My name is Jeb and I'm the bassist. Our group's website is www.davesteinbubhub.com, where there are sound clips, biographical info and gig dates. The recent live-in-studio tracks are very indicative of where we’re goin’.

Our style is groove-rock, with lots of funk and dashes of Latin and Dead. The vocals are soulful with heartfelt lyrics and stories, and the bass and guitar are energetic and melodic. We're looking to rock original tunes as well as improvise with a tight unit.

We are currently playing with several professional drummers, but are looking for a dedicated band member. Rehearsal is in a home studio in Felton. We've gigged from San Luis Obispo to Arcata and are looking to keep on keepin' on.

Ideal drummer has a firm rock and funk foundation, with Latin and reggae feels down as well. Great groove, feel and tone are essential. A jazz sensibility is great, not just in the sense of swinging or playing standards, but an open approach to music and improvisation with a lot of listening, dynamics, and fun.

Drummers we dig are Billy Martin, Steve Gadd, Bill Kreutzman, the James Brown guys (Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield), the Sting and Zappa guys (Vinnie Coliuata, Omar Hakim), John Molo, Scott Rager, Scott Amendola, the groove of Motown/Stax-Volt/Muscle Shoals, and of course the list goes on.

The plan is lots of live shows and some studio albums leading to High Sierra Music Festival 2006. Thanks for checking it out!

Cheers!

Any suggestions on gatherings/ways to meet solid, dedicated players? I'm giving my life up to my music and message and am feeling like I need to put a band together. CL seems random and flakey. I don't have time to go see live band after live band on the hopes I can strike it up with someone who's ALREADY IN a band. Feedback appreciated.

Hey Tribe.net Friends and Family,

I've never sent out a mass myspace message like this. . but last night, one of the Bay Area's biggest stations played our song Tall Grass. A big moment indeed! Now if you and 200 other people email HOOMAN@RADIOALICE.COM by tomorrow and tell them to keep pumping out the Brad Wolfe and the Moon, they will definitely play more of the good stuff. Your kindness will never be forgotten :)~

You can hear the radio show at: www.bradwolfemusic.com

Also, I'm sad to announce that our Fillmore show w/ Howie Day is sold out. . .But you can still get tickets for our all ages headlining show at one of SF's best venues, Slim's, on Saturday August 13th!

Love from,
Brad

Girlyman w/s/g Lindsay Mac and Jules Piper - 6/11/05 - Albany, NY

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to tell you all about this upcoming show – GIRLYMAN with special guests Lindsay Mac and Jules Piper!!

If you haven't heard of Girlyman yet, just wait, because you will! They are incredible! They toured this past fall opening for the Indigo Girls, and are going on tour with them again this summer.

Imagine if the Indigo Girls got together with Paul Simon and created Peter, Paul & Mary - only sexier, and with a quirky sense of humor.

Now, with that creative, gender-confused nostalgia in mind, get ready for Doris Muramatsu, Ty Greenstein, and Nate Borofsky - long-time musicians and friends who found themselves making beautiful music together in their shared Brooklyn apartment.

Together, the three members of Girlyman create a rich, poignant, playful sound that crosses genres and genders.

Girlyman's harmony-driven style veers from urban folk to country rock to calypso doo-wop, and the songwriters effortlessly switch off lead vocals and play a range of instruments. Writes the Hartford Courant, "Girlyman is an infectious combination of rock music, folk songs, classical roots, punk sensibilities and just plain fun."

Cellist and singer-songwriter Lindsay Mac offers a fresh look at acoustic music by combining folk/pop structure with plucked and bowed cello. Lindsay has recently opened for k.d. lang and is now touring in support of her debut album, "Small Revolution".

Boston native Jules Piper has shared the CDGLCC music series stage with Pamela Means, Adrianne and local favorite Paddy Kilrain. Jules is currently living in NYC and working on her debut solo album.

When, Where and How Much:

8 PM, First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, 405 Washington Ave., Albany, NY. General Admission, All Ages.

$10 in advance, $12 at the door. Call 518-462-6138 to charge by phone for advance tickets.

Seating is limited! Purchase your tickets early!

Check out the event listing here --> http://newyorkstate.tribe.net/event/e8fa6d92-bb84-45a2-9a0a-089a8d5b154f?tribeid=15196e64-afe3-48db-a0e4-eed86ff13aec&nextpage=http%3A%2F%2Fnewyorkstate.tribe.net%2Ftribe%2F15196e64-afe3-48db-a0e4-eed86ff13aec%3Fr%3D10667&r=10667

Indigo Girls @ Clearwater Festival in Hudson, NY

Hi All,

I just found out that the Indigo Girls are scheduled to play this
year's Clearwater Festival in Hudson, NY. According to the Indigo
Girls website they will be playing on Sunday, June 19. They are not
mentioned anywhere on the Clearwater site yet, but the Sunday schedule does mention "special guests" to perform at the closing ceremony. :-)

Tickets for the festival are $35 for a day ticket (good for either
>Live auction
>Complimentary drinks & food

All in the Name of Fun for a Worthwhile Cause!
Celebrate the explosion of art that occurred during the 1920's while heralding in the new golden age of art in Detroit!

Although each individual component of the Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball would make for a fun evening out on the town, it's the grandness of this event that sets it apart from all others. The Roaring 20's Masquerade Ball is a Sound & Vision Musical that tells the tale of Nick Fudrich, a Detroit River dock worker during the prohibition era. As with the finest fashion collections, several common threads are used to tie together the individual components of this production: Music, fashion and staging inspired by the 1920's. Actors to give the event its grounding. And a bold narrator.

they need a place, like a bar, where people are already that they can expose to their sound. they are from monmouth co. and dont want to travel to much if its not worth it, so places in that area are prefered, but any suggestions are welcome.
Higher Ground has been delighting Northwest crowds with a firey blend of traditional and original American roots music for over a decade. After a tremendous year of gigging and recording during which the band sold out venues like Portland's Crystal Ballroom and released a live CD, Higher Ground is set to release their 6th full-length record, OFF THE RAIL.
And Folkrum has earned the privilege to open for this band.

Come join our Tribe.

Hi there:
I'm new to this tribe, so I want to introduce myself. I'm a San Francisco based singer-songwriter whose influences include Bob Dylan (of course) and Townes Van Zandt, among others.
I also want to invite you to a songwriters circle, in which I'm taking part.
Acoustic & Original, a songwriters' circle, will be held this Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Espresso Roma, 3130 Fillmore St. (near Filbert) in San Francisco's Marina district. It will also feature Mario Zelaya, Miguel Zelaya and Braden Towne.
Also I'm also interested in doing more songwriters' circles and open mics and meeting and listening to other musicians. So please feel free to contact me if you want to talk shop or other assorted topics.
Take care.

Mark

Offline Promotions - 2005

ONE FREE ROUND:

AFBPromotions (www.aidforbands.com) will be doing ONE free round of offline promotions in January 2005. For anyone interested in having their materials passed around the globe by our offline teamers keep reading.

DEADLINE for submissions: December 1st, 2004

Email me for a mailing address! wednesday@aidforbands.com
Please send regular postage paid mail, no UPS (or other person to person) delivery please (no one's home during the day - the time they LOVE to show up! So your parcel might be sent back to you)

WHAT TO SEND IN:

Materials I'm looking for:
- Flyers (full, quarter, half sheets - NO SHOW FLYERS unless you have a blank area that the teamers can fill in themselves)
- CD/CD-Rs/demos/samplers/etc. (paper/plastic cases + artwork please - NO
JEWEL CASES)
- Pens/pencils/markers/etc.
- Post cards/flyer cards
- Press releases, bio pages, fact sheets, etc.
- Buttons/pins/badges
- Business cards
- Stickers
- Print zines, comics, etc.
- And other small light weight promo materials or product samplers you may have on hand.
(no lighters, candles, matches or other flammable/combustable/illegal materials)

YOU DUPLICATE ... WE DISTRIBUTE:

YOU must replicate/duplicate all promotional items/materials to send in to us for re-distribution, we will not do that for you! Our teamers give everything away for free in their local areas (anyone caught selling will be kicked off the team). You can send in as much or as little as you like. Most bands generally send us anywhere from 5 - 100+ of each item. The more you send in, the better your chances are of getting your name and products in more packages and "out there" to the public.

WE'RE INTERNATIONAL:

We currently have 30 ACTIVE offline street teamers (over 60 teamers in all) in the following areas: Canada (Ontario - Brantford & London), USA (IL, NE, VA, DE, PA, NY, CT, WI, IA, CO, OR, FL, WA, MO, MI, CA), the UK (England & Scotland - Norfolk, Manchester, Aberdeenshire, Glasgow, Essex), Australia (Perth). If there's a specific area you'd like your materials distributed in, make sure you let me know a head of time and re-remind me via a note when you send in your promo materials!

WANT TO JOIN THE ROSTER?

If you wish to JOIN the AFBPromotions Roster in 2005 and have your materials distributed monthly or bi-monthly (depending on which format we choose in the new year - this will be decided by us) including online promotions, please send in your request before <b>November 6th, 2004</b>. Offline promotions in 2005 will NOT be free, but the more bands that join the roster, the cheaper the individual price will be (we're working on getting it down to anywhere from $10 - $30 a month or less). There will also be a small registration fee to be apart of the Roster (around $5). Send all requests to me at: wednesday@aidforbands.com

STREET TEAMERS:
You only have TWO DAYS LEFT to join the 2005 AFBPromotions street team! Make sure you fill out the form on the following website: www.aidforbands.com/streetteams.html before November 6th, 2004! Both online and offline positions are available and this is a "rewards" based team, the more work you do to help us promote our bands, the more free goodies you'll get to choose from!

Street Teamers - Last Chance To JOIN!

The year is winding down (faster than I can think) and we are on the hunt for some more honest, devoted and loyal ONLINE and OFFLINE street teamers to help us promote our AFBPromotions 2005 Roster (which includes independent bands, labels, zines and more from various genres all around the world).

There's only ONE WEEK left to sign-up, so don't delay!

I'll be accepting submissions until around Friday, November 5th, 2004 (after which you've missed the boat and will have to wait until we open the gates in the new year!)

To sign-up simply go to: http://www.aidforbands.com/streetteams.html fill out the form with your info, click on the send button and viola! We accept applications from anywhere in the world and of any age, but we are looking for those that are mature, reliable and are active in their local music community.

What your responsibilities will be:

For offline teamers - you'll be required to hand out promotional material that we send you from our bands, labels, zines and others that need our promo assistance throughout the year. (Mostly we'll send you CDs, Stickers, Flyers, post cards, business cards, etc.). You'll also be required to provide evidence of your promotional efforts and submit a monthly progress report showing what you have done. Each piece of evidence and your reports will be viewed and prizes will be assigned according to how much you have done to help us out (in most cases YOU choose your prize!).

For online teamers - you'll be required to pass around our newsletters, press releases, information, tour dates and more through the world wide web (email people, post on message boards, groups, etc.). You will need to provided us with direct links, BCC emails and other proof that you have helped us spread the word online. You'll also be required to fill out a monthly progress form with all the promotional efforts you have done. Your reports and evidence will be used to determine what type of prize package you will receive (again, in most cases you decide what your prize will be).

For more information visit: http://www.aidforbands.com or email me at wednesday@aidforbands.com

Hey Oct. 21 at the Bitter End (1981 W. Burnside), starting 8pm, no cover charge. Their Vaudevillian humor & melodic/harmonic intensity zig-zags through time from Victornian sea chanties to P-funkish grooves with skillful, yet spacious arrangements. I'm talking about non-other than that band beyond bands, "FOLKRUM". Come see them. I'll be there.
